The last whole day we spent in Brasov was quite busy. We woke up early
in the morning to catch the group bus to Peles Palace and Dracula's Castle. We
started with going to Peles, located at the far end of a beautiful forest path,
at the top of a hill. The Palace was founded by King Carol I, the same man who
ensured Romania's independence in 1877. We were guided around in the palace and
got explained histories and happenings from a few of the different rooms.
The palace has 170 rooms, everything from bedrooms to theatres, concert halls,
weapons rooms, libraries, offices, card rooms, shisha lounges, apartments,
bathrooms, rooms to hang out in after you take a bath, painting rooms, tea
rooms, children’s play rooms, meeting rooms, breakfast rooms and formal dining
rooms. Every detail is careful thought through. We saw e.g. wooden spiral
staircases, massive decorated mirrors, doors hidden inside of cupboards,
statues, a room shaped like an upside down boat, a room that looks twice as
long because of a two mirrors, a stain-glass roof that can be opened up during
the summer etc. Unfortunately, it was not allowed to take any pictures of the
inside without buying an additional ticket.
Next stop was Dracula's castle! Not everyone in the group was joining,
so the four of us who was, jumped in an old Dacia 1300 and ran off in
relatively high speed. The driver forced the tiny car up in well 95km/h, on a
road that was not only busy with other cars, but also had bumps and holes
so big that the driver time after time threw the car into the oncoming traffic
to avoid the holes. I thought we were about to crash several times before he in
the right second threw the car back into the right side. The car having no seat
belt was no comfort either.
When we after an hour finally reached the well-known castle, situated on
top of a hill, hurried we eagerly up. Dracula's castle, with its real name Bran
Castle, was originally a fortress built by the Knights of Teutonic Order in the
year 1212. In the castle, which is now turned into a museum, we see
collections of ceramics, furniture, weapons, books and armour. The castle also
has a defence corridor on the outside which used to connect the defence towers
for easy shooting towards targets towards the road.
At the end of the day, we
went on a brief trip to see if we could be lucky to see a bear come out of the
forest to the garbage cans to feed. Unfortunately, a group of teens were
partying close by and a pack of wild dogs roamed the nearby streets, which led
to the bear not daring to come out of the forest. We could, however, catch a
good glance of him looking at us from in between the trees.

Der letzte ganze Tag, den wir in Brasov verbracht haben, war
ziemlich ausgefüllt. Wir standen früh am Morgen auf, um den Gruppenbus zu Peles
Palast und Draculas Schloss zu erwischen. Wir begannen mit Peles, das am Ende
eines Waldweges, auf einem Hügel, zu finden ist. Der Palast wurde von King
Carol I begründet, demselben Mann, der Rumäniens Unabhängigkeit 1877 gesichert
hat. Wir wurden durch den Palast geführt und bekamen die Geschichten und
Ereignisse der verschiedenen Räume erzählt. Der Palast hat 170 Räume, alles von
Schlafzimmern über Konzerthallen, Waffenkammern, Bibliotheken, Büros,
Kartenräumen, Raucherräumen, Wohnungen, Bädern, Zeichnungsräumen, Teeräume,
Spielräume, Räume für wichtige Treffen und Essenszimmer. Jedes Detail ist
vorsichtig durchdacht. Wir sahen da zum Beispiel Spiraltreppen, schwer
dekorierte Spiegel, versteckte Türen, Statuen, Räume mit optischer Täuschung,
sodass sie grösser erscheinen, und so weiter. Leider war es verboten, vom
inneren Bilder zu machen, ohne eine Spezialticket dafür zu lösen.
Der nächste Stopp war Draculas Schloss. Nicht jeder der
Gruppe nahm daran teil, so dass am Ende nur vier mitmachten. Wir stiegen in
einen alten Dacia 1300 und gingen mit relativ grosser Geschwindigkeit los. Der
Fahrer führte das kleine Auto bis an seine 95km/h grenze, auf einer Strasse,
die nicht nur gut befahren war, sondern auch viele Schlaglöcher hatte, die so
gross sind, dass man das Auto zeitweise auf die andere Strassenseite ziehen
musste, um ihnen auszuweichen! Das Auto hatte auch keine Gurten und nicht viel
Komfort.
Als wir nach einer Stunde endlich das gut bekannte Schloss,
auf einem Hügel situiert, erreichten, gingen wir schnell zum Schloss hoch.
Draculas Schloss, mit richtigem Namen Brans Schloss, war original eine Festung
der Teutonischen Ritter aus dem Jahr 1212. Im Schloss, das jetzt ein Museum
ist, sahen wir Sammlungen von Keramik, Möbeln, Waffen, Büchern und Rüstungen.
Das Schloss hat auch einen Verteidigungsgang auf der Aussenseite, welcher den
Verteidigungsturm verbindet, sodass schnell gegen Gegner von der Strasse her
geschossen werden kann.
Am Ende des Tages gingen wir auf eine kleine Tour um zu
sehen, ob wir genug Glück haben, um die Bären aus dem Wald kommen zu sehen,
wenn sie aus den Abfallkübeln essen. Unglücklicherweise war eine Gruppe von
Teenagern am Party machen, ganz in der Nähe, und auch eine Gruppe wilder Hunde
machten viel Lärm, so dass sich der Bär nicht traute, näher zu kommen. Wir
sahen jedoch, wie er von den Bäumen aus auf uns schaute.
